In today’s fast paced technological world, maintaining relationships is immensely important. Technology, while it is amazing in so many ways, has caused massive changes in the way we communicate. We are now able to communicate with people from all over the world from our phones. The convenience of technology creates opportunities that weren’t available to us previously. It also has the potential to put a distance between people and create perceived indifference. We no longer have to be face to face to communicate.
When it comes to business, perceived indifference can wreck relationships and potentially your businesses chance of success. The difference is all in the attitude; when you are having a meeting with a client or potential client that person should have your full focus for the duration of the meeting, when you leave the meeting that business should be sure of your passion, honesty and integrity. Following up after the meeting should be done relatively promptly and from that moment on you maintain that relationship semi-regularly without being over the top.
People who feel as though they are perceived indifferently or unappreciated in the workplace often feel dissatisfied and will after a time leave. This applies to clients as well as staff in any sized business.
Genuinely caring about how your clients business is going when talking to them is the key. Try and connect other businesses back to your clients. When helping to create connections within your network NEVER recommend more than one business in the same field. For the simple reason that that in itself is perceived indifference. You can always say that you have a few connections but offer one business initially. If that connection doesn’t work then they are able to come back to you asking for another referral and no one feels as though they have been perceived indifferently.
- Value your clients and your network. Be passionate about what they have to offer and what you have to offer them. Be a connector to your network and local businesses; not only is it satisfying but it also creates a circle of wealth and success.
